Continuing the LC line, we have the LC III (the LC II was basically an LC with a 68030, but keeping the 16-bit data bus: the speed improvement was minimal!). This model in particular was very, very popular: that's why I have three of these in my collection, and I could have more if I wanted to... This server is a LC III: it works very well, makes very little noise and consumes minimal amounts of energy (about 50 watt max: typical values are around 10-20 watt, which is similar to those economy lightbulbs!)
Apple redeemed itself with the LC III: a faster version of the 68030 processor was introduced, along with a 32-bit data bus, higher memory limit (up to 36 MB: 32 MB expansion + 4 MB onboard) and more VRAM (up to 768 kB). The math co-processor was still optional, however a socket for it was now present in the motherboard, therefore clearing up the PDS slot for other usages.
Like I said, I have three LC III units in my collection: one is currently working as Babylon, the server, and the other two are in storage. Aside from some RAM and HD differences, they are basically the same thing!
