Tricks of the light
Yesterday I had some fun with my DSLR camera and tripod. I stood in almost complete darkness taking some long exposure time photos, here are the results:
This first one actually was not in complete darkness, as the house has a big halogen projector triggered by a motion sensor to illuminate the drive at night. Quite clever, but I wanted complete darkness – and since I couldn’t find the switch for it I had to wait until the timer went out, and then move surreptitiously without triggering the sensor again… 🙂
I like this one in particular – the projector went off, and I took this with a 30 second exposure time, F/4 aperture and ISO cranked up to the maximum (1600 or 3200? Can’t remember). It looks very grainy, which gives it quite a cool effect.
And then I played a bit with my car (my neighbours probably think I’m some sort of a nutcracker, standing just in shorts (it was quite hot outside) in complete darkness, photographing my car with various light settings. But I did have fun :).
This last one turned out to be quite nice – and this was only with the position lights on, no headlamps! (I could probably have set the f/# to a larger value…)

This one still has a long way to go to get anywhere near the Uno… 🙂 but 25000 miles it is nevertheless a milestone!

First it was because it was cold, then because it was wet, and now with such lovely weather outside I’m complaining it is too dry and I get dust everywhere :-P. Anyway, that doesn’t stop me from training!

Nope, I haven’t disappeared or anything, I’ve just been busy with a number of things (a “proper” post will come in due course!).

Yesterday I signed the contract to my new place – I’m moving in next month!
Found myself a nice little house with a gigantic garden and at a 5-10 min walk from campus – what else can I ask? 🙂
Naughty Thorlabs!
The other day I was just happily surfing through Thorlabs’ website (shopping! Yay!), when something very tiny caught my eye:
Wait a minute… that light bulb over there seems quite familiar! I know I’ve seen it somewhere before, but where? 🙂
Haha! There you go, I knew I had seen it somewhere! 😀 Thorlabs, Thorlabs… – it is true Apple will probably not chase you because of a product logo which was discontinued more than 10 years ago, but still, you could draw your own light bulb, it is not that difficult!
(although I’m not sure about the “not chasing you out” bit. Apple has a long story of being pushed around (remember “Sosumi”, the Mac OS sound?) and is also famous for pushing around as well!…)
